Findon's only about 8km from the CBD but it feels like it's been quietly doing its own thing for decades. Most of the housing stock is post-war brick — solid homes built in the fifties and sixties — and a fair chunk of them still have their original galvanised steel gutters. When you get up the ladder on those older places, you're often finding rust sitting behind decades of leaf mulch. If the valley isn't kept clear, you get water backing up under the tiles before it even reaches the gutter.

Winter's when Findon really earns its reputation for blocked drains. The Antarctic fronts that come through between April and August dump a lot of rain in short bursts, and if the gutters are already half-full of gum debris, that water's going nowhere useful. A clean before the season starts isn't a luxury here — it's just sensible maintenance.
